So most likely you met me in person and I gave you an business card with this web site address on it. This site was launched in 1999 and was a “blog” before that term even existed. As a web site designer, I would edit raw html code, embed the pictures using code, it was a whole thing. I was a very early adopter of digital cameras in the early 2000’s and have a fairly active social life. Every time we’d have a house party or any kind of adventure, I was there taking pictures and uploading them to crackhore.
The web site started getting a lot of followers, not just in Memphis where I was living at the time but also in New Jersey. I forget exactly how it spread there but still am in contact with many of them.
I stopped updating the site many years ago. I dunno why, I lost pretty much all my viewers and honestly was updating Facebook more since it had an audience. Lately, something has happened to my account and the algorithm is hiding 90% of my posts so I decided, it’s time to boot crackhore back up.
I try to update this site as much as possible and have all of the posts duplicated on the crackhore Facebook page.
The latest round of content is going to be in the form of a book I’m attempting to write. For years, I’ve wanted to get a 30 day Amtrak Railpass. The deal is it’s 30 days and 10 stops. The 30 days starts after you get on the first train. Once I bought the rail pass, which usually go on sale for $250-$300.00 in the early spring, I started immediately plotting my course.
New Orleans to Chicago, immediately get on the California Zephyr and get to Richmond. BART to San Francisco. Spend some time in San Francisco, head to Seattle, spend some time in Seattle, then off to Minneapolis, spend some time there, then off to Milwaukee for a few days, back to Chicago, spend one night there and back to New Orleans.
I started doing a ton of research on Google Maps. Where to stay. Where to eat, where to drink, what to do. I’ll be honest, most of the time was spent in dive bars. I try to take pics and notes at each one but I’m going to be mostly going on memory.
In the future, I’m going to write in real time since…well, the legal weed would get on top of me badly and things get…forgotten.
Anyway. I’ll often be vague in describing anyone I meet on my travels, often times using ***’s and first letter of first name. Because this web site is so old it indexes in Google extremely well and don’t want to get anyone in trouble.
Over the next few weeks/months, I’m going to make a huge backlog of content. Things posted on Facebook that need to be posted here, that could be a whole day of work but ever since the trip and even before the trip, I’ve been keeping my bar tabs at a minimum and drinking at home and writing so it’s worth it.
